My race/color precedes me no matter where I go, biasing people’s perception of me. This is never situational. My existence as a Black man isn’t situational, it’s a permanent condition subservience to whiteness, white people who can at any moment rewrite the script of my experience.
White people have all social, political and institutional power. This inequitable power imbalance means all white people are de facto racist, and that we live in a world defined by white supremacy. Racism is not an act, moral belief or a feeling. It is a system. Racism is group prejudice back by institutional power. This most especially includes public schools full of books written by white people, with mostly white teachers telling the stories of white people with their version of white history.
Instead of requesting certitude and offering excuses for standard racist behavior — excuses that have clearly fallen on deaf ears — learn to become comfortable trusting the experiences of Black people even if it offends and frustrates your white sensibilities.
By the way, you're outrageously offensive in defending the above behavior and condone racist Germans. The German racial conscience has not changed much since WWII. Hanau? Would your grandma want you to defend the Nazis the same way??
